#GivingTuesdayMilitary is here: How are you spreading kindness?
This year of 2020 has been rough on many of us.
A worldwide pandemic, sickness, fear, unemployment, separation from loved ones, isolation, cooped up kids … I’ll stop there.
But even today as I face significant struggles in my own life, it is others around me who continue to remind me hope exists. Others have the ability to bring a light in some moments where we cannot find one ourselves.
Coronavirus cases are spiking and the world is locking down hard again: Is there a better time to spread 1 million acts of kindness? It seems Giving Military Tuesday was made for a time such as this.
It actually was started in 2019, by three military spouses who wanted to bring a military component to the annual Giving Tuesday, where, after giving thanks on Thanksgiving and then spending big bucks on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, a tradition of giving back was started.
On Giving Tuesday many people will donate to their favorite charities — but these mil spouses didn’t want to focus on just money. They wanted to include acts of kindness, and they wanted it strong.
Military members, families and veterans are banding together to complete 1 million acts of kindness on Dec. 1, 2020, and then post evidence of their service on social media with the designation #GivingTuesdayMilitary to continue to spread the word.
It is a lot of people, Army spouse and Giving Tuesday Military co-founder Maria Reed acknowledged to Military Times in 2019, but here’s how it can work: "If 25,000 people share with 40 of their friends, that’s a million,” she said.
